SPEECHCRAFT PROGRAM 23 & 24 JAN 2010

As I write this during the second prepared speech presentation for this program, it is interesting to note how everyone has picked up public speaking skills so fast.

Many thanks to all members who has also given up their weekend to help out as speakers or advisors during the speechcraft program.

Each of the 15 participants have such hunger to learn, to improve, to be more confident.

I wondered about when I was their age (between 19 - 22?) What was I doing?

It brought to mind a presentation I did for my Higher English course in Taylor's College. There was a session where each of us had to complete a presentation and I was to be judged by my fellow classmates.

We had the freedom to pick our own title and it took me one week to figure out whether I wanted to talk about music or a book or about food.

However, I managed to finally find a topic, "How to Pick Up Girls" for my presentation.

Giving pointers to guys on how to pick up girls, from their appearance, to the use of cologne and pick up lines, I managed to make everyone laugh so hard, they could hardly hear what I said.

At the end of the presentation, I had a 9.9 rating from my classmates!!

---------------------

The speeches by the speechcrafters are getting better and better. Their actions are getting more and more confident. Everyone is laughing at reasons why women likes shopping.

Some mucking around, VPE and VPPR. (not paying attention)

International Night Meeting 28 July 2009

With the help of fellow toastmasters, balloon decorations were put up and good tasty food was prepared.

The meeting was an international success!!

We had ACB Jason Kum give his speech about 'Staying Positive'! It was simple yet inspiring, yet humorous.

Let's have a picture speak a thousand words...
Which means that if we have about twenty pictures, they will be shouting out TWENTY THOUSAND words!

Club President, distracted by camera...

Our Table Topics Master, IPP CC Simon Tan, with various saying regarding "Friends".

ACS Harold Angus being given the topic from one of those colourful balloons on the wall.

CTM, ALB Lucy, always animated and passionate in all she does.

CC Ee Jun Wai, the 'handsome' one, giving his take on table topics.

Fun and laughter during our meetings - a definite MUST during all our meetings.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Awards were given out to the Best Toastmaster of the Term 2008/2009 and Best Mentor.

IPP CC Simon, had gifts prepared for his exco, which he handed out personally to each one.
The support of a good team to build an excellent leader!

An appreciation gift was also given to Immediate Past President CC Simon Tan, for his contributions to bring the club to greater heights during his term.

They are all holding pieces of paper to spell "MAKING A DIFFERENCE!".

Joint Installation Night - 2009/2010

From the very start of planning the Joint Installation, there were so many decisions and hiccups and issues that it made many people wonder if this installation will succeed.

Having 8 clubs to come together with varying ideas and suggestions, it was a challenge to pick and use the best options and finally put together a 4 hour Joint Installation Night that proved to be a roaring success!

Well done, to all participating clubs!

Laughter exercises as icebreaker. As most people think of toastmasters as a dull and serious club, this was a refreshing look at how toastmasters can go zany and wild too.
Running to the goals ahead.

Great dance performances. Very professional and entertaining. I liked the Indian dance.

Our club's Treasurer, TM Chiang Lee Lim (far left).

Our VP-Membership, TM Michael Tee (3rd from left).

Our club's VPPR, yours truly.

MIM Toastmasters Club President, TM Glenn Koh (standing far left) and IPP CC Simon Tan (2nd from left)

Marianna Pascal taking on the Table Topics session.

Our speaker for the evening, K Loghandran DTM. A feisty man who challenged all of us to soar to greater heights and be the best, learning from the best. Truly inspiring and he's very funny too.

Appreciation for handling the music for the evening.

ATB Jason Kum was the installation emcee, in which he did a fantastic job of coordinating and choreographing the whole installation with effeciency.

CC Au Yong Lucy also did an amazing job to create the mood for the evening.

Our President Theme for the term is

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Because a Toastmasters club is dedicated to developing communication and leadership skills, it would be fitting to say that the above theme addresses the following issues:

  1. Make a difference in your personal development, whether as a speaker or as a leader.
  2. Make a difference in your surrounding environment by sharing our experiences with other fellow toastmasters, friends and relatives.
  3. Make a difference by achieving goals and objectives beyond benchmarks.

We look forward to a new term and hope to see all of you during our next meeting on 7 July 2009 at Grand Paragon Hotel.
